Making a WNBA roster is extremely difficult — there are just 12 teams and 12 spots per team — and former Nebraska guard Jaz Shelley felt that reality when she was released by the Phoenix Mercury just before the regular season begins this week. Shelley was one of seven players cut by the Phoenix Mercury at the end of the preseason. Phoenix opens the regular season on Tuesday at Las Vegas. The Mercury released both of their recent draft picks, Shelley and UCLA guard Charisma Osborne.
