Currently, Black people only make up 2.6 per cent of Canada’s tech industry, according to a 2019 Brookfield Institute study. Osei wants to double that number by encouraging more Black youth to consider a career in tech. Osei hopes that Black students will have a similar mentality and take a shot at applying for Rising Star.
