A former senior official in the Gauteng human settlements department has been arrested in the R255 million Free State asbestos corruption case. The suspect, who was the acting HOD of the Department of Human Settlements in Gauteng also authorised the same service provider irregularly in Gauteng. According to a Daily Maverick report, kickbacks to Diedricks were made by Blackhead Consulting, owned by Sodi, and one of two companies involved in the Free State corruption case. This allowed the company to secure the inflated contract to audit houses with asbestos roofs in the Free State.
