Forestry audit reveals 'widespread' breaches in employment standards

Forestry audit reveals 'widespread' breaches in employment standardsEMMA ALLEN/STUFF Forestry firms are flouting employment regulations, a new audit shows. Almost 90 per cent of the forestry industry is breaching employment standards and that may not even be the full extent of it, according to a Government audit of the sector. Data from the audit, obtained by Stuff, revealed breaches were "widespread" within the forestry industry and of even greater concern was that further breaches of minimum employment standards were "likely to be hiding" due to "poor recording". "But for changes to happen in the forestry industry, MBIE is going to have to get much more proactive," he said. Reid said "wage theft" was common occurrence and workers were increasingly vulnerable in the forestry industry.
