A Progressive Conservative government would spend $1.9 billion over the next decade on mental health and addiction supports and housing, Leader Doug Ford says. The amount is the same as pledged in the People’s Guarantee — the platform released late last year by Ford’s predecessor, Patrick Brown, which was based on wide consultations with party members — but less than the $2.1 billion over four years in the Liberal budget. Speaking Monday morning outside the Durham Mental Health Services office in Whitby, Ford said those in need of help often end up on a waiting list instead. “In any given year, one in five Canadians face mental health and addiction and by the time they reach 40, one in every two will deal with mental health illness,” he said. “This is not a statistic, this is a tragedy.”Read more:
