Ford defends $231M in cancellation costs for green energy projects

Premier Doug Ford says it’s not a waste of taxpayers’ money to spend $231 million on compensation to developers of almost 800 renewable energy projects his government axed shortly after taking power last year. “I’m so proud of that,” added Ford. “It is outrageous that the premier feels ‘proud’ about ripping up clean energy contracts at a cost of $231 million to the people of Ontario,” he said in a statement. “This will continue to evolve and we’ll make sure we’ll have the kinds of assets in place that are green (and) responsible. We have other nuclear projects coming on board.”He did not provide specifics.
