For the 2nd month in a row, inflation shoots up to 5.76% in May on costly food items


Rising for the second month in a row, retail inflation shot up to 5.76% in May due to rise in prices of food items, including vegetables. Overall food inflation moved up to 7.55% in May as against 6.32% in the previous month, the data showed. As per the data, inflation in the fuel and light segment was marginally down in May from the previous month. Inflation in the vegetable basket more than doubled to 10.77% in May as compared to 4.82% in the previous month. The Reserve Bank factors in the retail inflation while arriving at its monetary policy.
