The Ontario Coalition for Health reported in May that the death rates for COVID-19 were higher in for-profit homes than in non-profit. Yet in the announcement, Premier Ford and Minister of Long-Term Care Merrilee Fullerton promised to put air conditioning in all the homes, both public and private. These privately-owned homes have already shown they will choose profit over PPEs and sufficient staff. I don’t see why we taxpayers should allow them to make even more profit. Require them to make and pay for the improvements that are necessary.
