David Durrant, 37, a football coach who moved to the United States on a football scholarship eight years ago, was on a boating trip with friends near Las Vegas on May 23. The boat hit a dock as it came into the harbour, and Mr Durrant fell into the water backwards into the boat’s propeller. The accident put him into a coma and his leg had to be amputated. Ms Robotham, 64, of Long Eaton, Derbyshire, said: “A friend sent me a text saying that David’s leg had been amputated and he was in a coma after an accident. The family are trying to raise £5,000 for both of them to visit Mr Durrant in the US and pay for his medical bills and rehabilitation, as he did not have health insurance.
