As chief secretary, this is Verma's first fodder case showcause and that too when she is slated to retire in February. The showcause, which chief minister Raghubar Das had ordered on Sunday night, presumably triggered by food minister Saryu Roy's letter, dents her invincible image. The CBI, probing cash withdrawals from district treasuries as part of the fodder scam cases, regards Verma's role as DC in RC 50A/96 case related to West Singhbhum (Chaibasa) treasury as suspect. The CBI alleged that as treasury custodian, she did not apprise the accountant-general of irregularities or sign audit reports. The CBI court' verdict on the West Singhbhum treasury case is expected soon.
