Five arrested for posing as national security operatives and extortion

The suspects, made up of four alleged impostors and a driver were picked up by the Western North Regional Police Command following intelligence reports about their activities in mining communities. The group had been operating in areas such as Suiaboi, where they reportedly pose as National Security personnel to target miners. According to a report by adomonline.com on April 7, 2026, Western North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Tsidi, said the suspects were dressed in uniforms resembling those of National Security operatives and demanded documentation from miners. DCOP Tsidi warned that while security agencies remain committed to clamping down on illegal mining, they will not tolerate individuals who impersonate security personnel to exploit or harass citizens.
