IPOH: The first phase of the non-profit health insurance scheme will cover foreign workers, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam (pic) said. He said the scheme, to be launched next year, will target these workers first as it was mandatory for them to have healthcare insurance. “The next phase, we will go for other groups, and slowly we will grow at a pace that we are comfortable with to ensure the success of the initiative,” he told reporters after the ground-breaking ceremony for SJK(T) Gunung Rapat. Dr Subramaniam had said in May that the scheme was aimed at ensuring that the cost of private medical treatment in the country is reasonable and affordable. He said that the Cabinet had approved the scheme and preparations were ongoing.
