Housewife sentenced to 6 months prison and fine for insulting Prophet Muhammad


IPOH: A housewife was sentenced to six months prison and RM15,000 fine by the Magistrate’s Court here today after being found guilty of three counts of insulting Prophet Muhammad in May last year. The accused, Tham Yut Mooi, 46, was charged with insulting the Prophet at 5.30pm on May 4 last year in the prayer hall of Abu Ubaidah mosque, Jalan Perpaduan in Taman Perpaduan Ulu Kinta here. She was accused of insulting Prophet Muhammad and was overheard by three individuals, Abdul Rahim Mat Diah, 53, Mohd Yunos Harun, 73 and Mohd Halim Buyong, 44, believed to be done to insult them. The prosecution was carried out by deputy public prosecutor Fadhli Ab Wahab while the accused was represented by lawyer WC Chiang. The court requested for the sentence to run simultaneously on the day of charge, and Tham faces an additional three more months in prison if she fails to pay the fine.
