A new gun law banning all semi-automatic weapons used during the Christchurch terrorist attack, has passed its first reading. ALEX LIU/STUFF The Government will pass new gun laws within the next two weeks. Police Minister Stuart Nash said the March 15 attacks in Christchurch exposed the considerable weaknesses in the current firearms law. The most critical weakness in the firearms law was that too many people had legal access to too many semi-automatic firearms capable of causing significant harm, he said.
