Auckland and north Waikato will be in a prohibited fire season from Tuesday (file photo). Fires will be banned in Auckland and north Waikato from next week, Fire and Emergency New Zealand says. A restricted fire season had been in place across greater Auckland since November due to dry conditions. With high temperatures forecast for Auckland Anniversary weekend, Harre said people needed to carefully check what activities were prohibited. Fires have been prohibited on the Hauraki Gulf islands since the end of November.
