Firefighters battled a fire that covered 80 hectares of forestry and farmland northwest of Bulls in Rangitikei on Saturday and Sunday. Firefighters had to battle to stop a 80-hectare scrub fire from destroying a Rangitīkei factory. The fire came close to meat company Farmlands Foods, but fire breaks and work from firefighters stopped it spreading. Farmland Foods' director of sales and marketing Garth Davis said the fire came within 500 metres of the factory. He said the fire jumped the fence into Farmland Food's 5-acre property.
