The Hāwera fire brigade was alerted to the fire in the vacant house on Waihi Rd, less than 200m from the Gull service station, about 11.45am. Laird Harper Firefighters are trying to prevent a house fire in Waihi Rd, Hawera, South Taranaki, spreading to a nearby petrol station. Laird Harper Flames were leaping through the roof and a loud popping could be heard coming from inside the house. Fairweather said the roof of the house was full of asbestos and firefighters would need to be decontaminated. Laird Harper Firefighters are battling a house fire in Waihi Rd, Hawera, South Taranaki.
