The fire started around 8:30 p.m. in a two-story townhouse at Queen St. E. and Sumach St. There was heavy smoke and flames as three aerial ladders, 20 trucks and 70 firefighters came to the scene. The blaze has spread to buildings on either side, but Toronto fire said they have been evacuated and there is no indication that anyone is still in the buildings. Toronto Fire Services Chief Matthew Pegg told reporters at the scene that a firefighter injured his leg after falling down a staircase. Adrian Ratushniak told the Star that the firefighter went back to work after he was treated by paramedics at the scene.
