Fire sparks evacuation at Alliance Nelson plantMARION VAN DIJK/STUFF Processing was stopped at the Alliance Nelson plant after a fire. Work ground to a halt at the Nelson freezing works on Tuesday evening after a fire broke out in the engine room. Electricity was still down on Wednesday morning at the Alliance Nelson plant the Main Rd Stoke premises. Nelson plant manager Terry Kreft said an electrical component in the engine room failed and caused the small fire, which automatically set off the alarms and alerted Fire and Emergency New Zealand. Watson said firefighters from Stoke, Richmond and Nelson attended.
