Crews from Wakefield, Tapawera and Lake Rotoiti attended a shed fire in Atapo, near Glenhope on Monday. A large shed was destroyed in a fire at a rural property, with six fire crews needed to battle the blaze. Tapawera Volunteer Fire Brigade fire chief Dean Millar said the property was up a valley, 25 minutes from Tapawera, so Millar said it took some time for crews to reach it. Two crews from Tapawera, two crews from the Wakefield Volunteer Fire Brigade, two from the Lake Rotoiti Voluntary Rural Fire Force and a rural tanker attended the fire. Millar said it took firefighters just over three hours to dampen things down and pull the shed apart.
