KUALA LUMPUR: The Cabinet on Wednesday announced that the Fire and Rescue Department will check the safety standards of all religious schools, including tahfiz centres, nationwide. A report on safety compliance by the schools must then be submitted to the government, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. "If they still refuse to comply, they can be asked to cease operations, because this is for the sake of our children's safety," he said at the national-level Maal Hijrah celebration here today. "We cannot compromise our children's safety. The Fire and Rescue Department has classified the case as arson, and submitted its full report to the police on Wednesday.
