It was the 20th victory for the seasoned Gor Mahia Football Club in Kenyan top-league football as they lifted the coveted Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League Cup for the 2022-2023 season. Gor Mahia are the only football club in East and Central Africa to clinch a continental trophy (the Nelson Mandela Cup, initially known as Africa Club Winners Championship Cup) in 1987. Club patron Raila Amollo Odinga was today among the first eminent persons to congratulate Gor Mahia for a deserved victory. The last time Gor lifted the Premier League trophy was in 2020 amid conflicting interests between FKF and Kenya Premier League that culminated in officials Barry Otieno and Nick Mwendwa facing sanctions from Sports CS Amina Mohamed. This afternoon Gor Mahia goals were scored by Benson Omalla, Peter Lwasa, Austin Odhiambo, and substitute Alpha Onyango.
