“They’re so happy to see a female driver,” Zeng said. It’s hard to pin down exactly how many women are active drivers; all taxi plate owners must also have a taxi driver licence. The couple recently created an application called O-Taxi to connect local taxi drivers with passengers. Since female taxi drivers are a rarity, passengers are surprised when they see the small black car roll up with Zeng behind the wheel. When she’s not taking flying lessons, or showcasing the “beauty of Ottawa” to international viewers through an Internet livestream, she’s logged on to the Uber driver app.
