The veterinary agreement will also smooth the path for the upcoming free trade deal between New Zealand and the EU. Not everyone has welcomed the agreement because of the concessions that had to be made, one example being the New Zealand pork industry. Industry body Pork New Zealand said the import of fresh pork would threaten the disease-free local status.
