This is the first family to migrate from the Una village after the flogging incident of July 11, where four people of the community were beaten in public. The incident had led to nation-wide outcry and protests.Living in constant fear of attacks by upper caste community and cow vigilantes had taken a toll on Raju and his five-member family . Raju was among the Dalits who had attempted suicide to protest against the July 11 thrashing. Though he survived the suicide attempt, he has not been able to avoid the wrath of the upper caste people of the village. "When I returned to Samter village, some villagers threatened me saying `you sur vived the suicide bid but now we will not let you and your family live here'," Raju said.
