The district and sessions judge's court on Thursday delivered the verdict, but the convicted couple were not present as they are absconding. Abu Taher, 32 and his second wife 20-year-old Laboni Begum have been convicted for the murder of Tazmina Khatun. Public Prosecutor Faruq Mohammad Reyazul Karim said the 7-year-old was strangled to death on Dec 13, 2007 at Taher's home in Pirganj Upazila. The child's uncle started a case with the local police the next day accusing Taher and Laboni. Following his arrest, Taher had confessed in court to committing the murder, but he fled after release on bail while Begum had been absconding since the murder, said the prosecutor.
