Nygard, 79, was accused of “a decadeslong pattern of criminal conduct” in the United States, the Bahamas and Canada, prosecutors said. Nygard sexually assaulted some of his alleged victims, while others were assaulted or drugged by his associates “to ensure their compliance with his sexual demands,” prosecutors said. The New York Times reported in February that the raids were part of an investigation into allegations of sexual assault that had been underway for at least five months. Nygard was in custody of the authorities in Winnipeg and could not immediately be reached for comment. © 2020 The New York Times Company
