Of them, farmers will produce 11,13,909 tonnes of hybrid variety Boro rice from 2,30,316 hectares of land, 11,75,867 tonnes of high yielding variety rice from 2,77,753 hectares and 1,939 tonnes of local variety Boro rice from 1,025 hectares of land. “Tender plants of Boro rice are growing fabulously in the mainland and low-lying and char and riverine areas,” he said. Farmers have brought more low-lying char lands, beels and riverine areas under Boro rice farming this time to complete its harvest before commencement of the next rainy season. “Vast tracts of Boro crop fields have worn an eye-catching greenish look now,” he said, adding that a bumper Boro rice output is likely if the climatic conditions remain favorable onwards during the next three months. Talking to BSS, farmers Azizur Rahman, Mozammel Hossain and Ariful Haque of village Najirdigar in Rangpur Sadar said tender plants of Boro rice on their crop lands are growing excellently predicting a bumper Boro rice output this season.
