Farhad Mazhar wasn’t abducted: IGP

Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque briefed the media on developments in the investigation over the man’s mysterious disappearance and rescue last week. “Our investigation suggests that Farhad Mazhar went to Khulna on his own and he was not abducted,” said IGP Hoque. The briefing is held amid renewed speculation over the court testimony provided by one Archana Rani, a former employee and follower of Mazhar, who suggested he staged his own abduction to get money for her. Mazhar's family has refused to comment on her testimony. Police have been sceptical about the abduction claim made by Mazhar who was found on a bus headed from Jessore to Dhaka, 18 hours after he reportedly went missing from outside his home in the capital.
