Family to follow footsteps of 13-year-old who died fleeing Mohawk Institute residential school


Loretta Nadeau hopes retracing her two brothers' footsteps when they fled a residential school in southwestern Ontario will bring healing to her entire family and community. More than 50 years ago, her brothers, Joseph and Rocky Commanda, ran away from the Mohawk Institute Indian Residential School in Brantford, Ont. A drone shot of the Woodland Cultural Centre in Brantford, Ont., which is housed in the former Mohawk Institute residential school building. Support is available for anyone affected by their experience at residential schools and those who are triggered by these reports. A national Indian Residential School Crisis Line has been set up to provide support for residential school survivors and others affected.
