A peaceful family day out almost ended in disaster when a couple were forced to abandon their motor to the incoming tide when it became stuck on a sandy beach. The family-of-five had been enjoying their drive along Brean beach in Somerset when their car began to sink deep into the mud on Sunday morning. As the tide came in they rang the Burnham-on-Sea Coastguards and BARB Search and Rescue team who attempted to free the trapped vehicle using a tractor. After failing to save the car before the tide came in the motor was abandoned on the beach, leaving the family with a huge bill. They added: 'This car will now have two tides over it and the owners will face an expensive recovery bill from a private company.
