Families 'could be allowed to meet for a week at Christmas as coronavirus rules relaxed'

Boris Johnson is said to be preparing to announce a plan next week for a relaxation of rules. The Health Secretary added it would be a "boost" to the UK if all four of its nations could reach arrangement to allow families to meet over Christmas. It has since been reported that several families could be allowed to join a social bubble and to mix between December 22 and 28. Earlier this week Public Health England said Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) guidance had suggested each day of greater freedom could require five days of tighter measures. Sage said the reproduction number - or R value - for the whole of the UK had dropped to between 1 and 1.1.
