Explosive belts worn by Cambrils attackers were fakeSpanish police shoot dead five suspects in Cambrils, a city 120 kilometres south of Barcelona, hours after a van mowed down dozens killing at least 13 in the Catalan capital. Explosive belts worn by attackers killed by police in the Catalan resort town of Cambrils were fake, the Spanish region's head Carles Puigdemont told local radio station RAC1 on Friday. Police killed five attackers later that evening in Cambrils to thwart a separate attack, after a speeding Audi injured seven people. The suspects, wearing explosive belts and clutching knives, bailed out and were shot dead by police in the early hours of the morning (New Zealand time). Puigdemont said bomb experts had confirmed the explosive belts were duds.
