Killarney-based marine biologist and sperm whale PhD candidate Seán O’Callaghan said recent storms likely led to the washout of whales, but recent Russia on the Irish coast. He said Cuvier’s Cuvier’s beetle is sensitive to sonar and may be due to recent Russian military activity. Cuvier’s Cuvier’s beetle was able to reach a depth of about 2,000 meters, but was known to be disturbed by sonar, he added. Stephanie Levesque, head of grounding for a group of Irish whales and dolphins, said the number of deep-sea whales launched on the Irish coast was not normal. The National Parks and Wildlife Service was asked to comment on a recently found carcass of a whale on the Irish coast.
