Experts: Treatment after road accidents remains discordant

Despite adopting new measures and rules, the whole situation of road accidents, including the emergency treatment of the victims, has not improved due to lack of coordination among the concerned stakeholders, said experts. Blast lawyer Ayesha Akhter gave a presentation on existing laws for emergency medical care for people injured in road accidents and the way forward to implement these laws and regulations. She said that the High Court bench in 2018, following a PIL filed in 2016, gave approval to implement “Guidelines for ensuring emergency health care for persons injured in road accidents and providing protection to assistants 2017” with two observations. Advocate ZI Khan Panna, trustee of BLAST, said that there was hope about the Covid situation in the country, but there was none about the improvement of the road accidents scenario in the country. “In recent cases, people may have received primary care but they rarely get proper treatment at government hospitals.
