The decision triggered the resignation of Colombia’s chief prosecutor and has renewed debate about whether the 2016 peace deal with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia is too lenient with rebel leaders. The tribunal also argued that trying Santrich in Colombia instead of the U.S. is the best way to consolidate peace.
