Ex-MMDA chief’s advice on colorum buses: Burn themMarikina City Rep. Bayani Fernando said more drastic moves – not the granting of emergency powers – are needed to solve the traffic problems in the metropolis. Fernando, former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chief, made one suggestion – burn down apprehended colorum buses. He said the P1-million fine on colorum buses is not enough to deter the owners from operating them. Fernando urged the government to explore the power of imminent domain and expropriation of properties. He said the government should enforce “no parking on the road.” On the impounding of illegally parked vehicles, Fernando urged imposing hefty fines as a deterrent.
