The President of the European Council Donald Tusk said Khalifa Haftar's military attack on Tripoli and the subsequent escalation in and around the capital constitutes a threat to international peace and security as well as it further threatens the stability of Libya. Tusk reaffirmed in meeting with the Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj that the EU is working on finding a form of ceasefire that helps Libyans reach peace and stability. He also said that Libya is a strategic partner for the EU and its stability is very important for the security of the region, Sahel and the Mediterranean. The two, in Brussels, talked about the current situation in Libya and its capital Tripoli. He added that the offensive on Tripoli aims to abort the political process and bring back totalitarian and military rule to Libya, saying the will of the people and civilian statehood will triumph at the end.
