The ministry said that the number of COVID-19 related deaths in the country reached 1,966 as of Thursday evening, including one new COVID-19 related death reported during the last 24-hour period. It also said that some 12,238 of the total reported COVID-19 cases are active cases, of which 226 of the patients are said to be under severe conditions. Ethiopia, Africa's second-most populous nation with about 107 million people, has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the east African region. Ethiopia is the fifth-most COVID-19 affected country in the African continent, after South Africa, Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia.
