An Ethiopian cargoship has called at an Eritrean port for the first time in 20 years. Eritrea has also announced plans to upgrade a road to Ethiopia, local media said. The vessel is owned by Ethiopian Shipping & Logistics (ESL). State media said it planned to carry 11,000 tonnes of Eritrean zinc exports to China. Landlocked Ethiopia's access to the ports of Massawa and Assab was cut off in 1998, forcing it to use Djibouti.
