Ethiopian ethnic rebel group members vow to participate in development activities

Representatives of the 95 combatants of an ethnic rebel group, operating in Ethiopia’s border regions adjoining Eritrea and Sudan, have vowed to participate in Ethiopia’s major development activities. The 95 rebel members of the Benishangul Gumuz Liberation Movement (BGLM), who had recently abandoned the ethnic rebel group and surrendered to Ethiopian government, have on Monday discussed with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn. The seven representatives, including a BPLM political bureau member and a military leader, in their discussion with the Ethiopian premier affirmed their keen interest to contribute to major development activities that are underway in the country, the Ethiopian state news agency ENA reported. The representatives particularly told Desalegn their ambition to participate in the successful completion of Ethiopia’s Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and other similar projects that are underway in Ethiopia’s Benishangul Gumuz regional state, it was indicated. The premier also assured members of the Benishangul Gumuz Liberation Movement regarding his government’s commitment to support them to rehabilitate as per the agreements reached.
