Ethiopia has exported 62 million US dollars worth of agricultural products through its western neighbor Sudan in the just ended Ethiopian fiscal Year (EFY) 2016/17. Bizuayehu Demissie, Ethiopian Trade ministry Gondar region office head said the majority of agricultural products were exported to China and Europe through Port Sudan, reported the state owned Ethiopian news Agency on Monday. However he said international price fluctuation on sesames and unrest in 2016 in Ethiopia had reduced the amount of Ethiopian goods exported through Port Sudan. Demissie further said that the Ethiopian government plans to establish a quality control and inspection office at its border crossing with Sudan to facilitate speedy exports of goods through Port Sudan. But with a growing economy and increasing interconnection with the global economy, Ethiopia has in recent years started utilizing ports in Sudan and the self-declared republic of Somaliland.
