The Ethiopian Ministry of Health on Wednesday reported 468 new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours, while the total number of confirmed cases hit 123,856 in the country. The ministry also disclosed that the number of COVID-19 related deaths in the country reached 1,918 as of Wednesday evening, including five new COVID-19 related deaths reported during the last 24-hour period. In addition, 10,066 of the total reported COVID-19 cases are active cases, of which 243 of the patients are said to be in severe condition. Ethiopia, Africa’s second-most populous nation with about 107 million people, has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the east African region. Ethiopia is the fifth-most COVID-19 affected country in the African continent, after South Africa, Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia.
