Error in dispensing prescription pills 'a wake-up call' for pharmacies

By Joshua LafoaiA report into a prescription pills dispensing error is a wake-up call for the nation's pharmacies, the Health and Disability Commissioner (HDC) says. The complaint was lodged by a patient who was given a three-month supply of Ferrograd F in 2015. This time it included another three months' supply of Ferrograd F and four tablets of mercaptopurine 50mg. "Accordingly, the pharmacy did not provide services to [Patient B] with reasonable care and skill, and breached Right 4(1) of the Code." "An incorrect brand name was written on the prescription by the person who dispensed the prescription," she said.
