Lisa Williams won the golden spurtle after reaching the final six in 2016An Englishwoman has beaten the Scots at their own game and won the World Porridge Making Championship. Lisa Williams, from Suffolk, claimed the golden spurtle in the competition’s 26th year in Carrbridge in the Highlands. The title, which is named after the traditional implement used to stir the cereal while cooking, is awarded to the contestant deemed to have made the best traditional porridge using just oatmeal, water and salt. “I discovered the golden spurtle in 2015 and immediately fell in love with the competition. In 2016 I made it to the final six and have been chasing the dream ever since,” she said.
