PETALING JAYA: A good command of the English language is key to Malaysia's competitive edge, said Tan Sri Yong Poh Kon (pic). Speaking during the latest instalment of Star Media Group's Power Talks series, the Royal Selangor International Sdn Bhd chairman said the lack of English proficiency was worrying and one of the reasons behind the unemployment of graduates. Yong, who was instrumental in the introduction of the Dual Language Programme (DLP) in Malaysian schools, added that the issue of unemployability would persist as long as the situation of poor English proficiency remained unresolved. He captivated the audience as he shared his experiences in running Royal Selangor, previously known as Selangor Pewter. "Royal Selangor grew from a small establishment to one of the renowned brands in pewter-based products globally.
