Wiegman, who led her Holland side to European Championship glory in 2017 before losing to the United States in last year’s World Cup final, has emerged as the favourite to succeed Phil Neville ahead of Jill Ellis, who won back-to-back World Cups with the US but may be considered too expensive. However, Wiegman signed a new contract with the Dutch FA last December and, sources in the Netherlands understand, has a desire to take her side to the Olympic Games in Tokyo before moving on. Neville is contracted until next July
