Wait for A-level appeals, universities told


Universities have been urged to hold places open for pupils appealing against their A-level grades in the hope of reducing injustices when exam results come out on Thursday. The universities minister has written to vice-chancellors asking them to be “as flexible as possible” when it comes to admissions so students do not have to “put their future on hold”. Appeals will take several weeks and ministers are anxious that those caught up in the process do not lose their place or end up having to take a year out of education, resit and reapply to university next year.
