Beginning in 2007, a series of scientific journal articles revised the purpose and use of emotions. We now know that emotions are designed to let us know when we are moving toward self-actualization by providing better-feeling emotions when we are going in that direction and worse-feeling emotions when we are heading away from self-actualization. When the new definition of the purpose of emotions is understood, we can know when our thoughts are creating stress and make immediate adjustments. Before we understood the purpose and use of emotions, it was difficult for many people to choose to heed their emotional guidance. Now anyone can learn strategies that make it easy to understand the message their emotions are giving them.
