Barker has composed theme tunes for Wallander and The Shadow Line★★★☆☆This Australian-born, England-based singer-songwriter has written the theme tune to Wallander and made a hit country soul album in Sam Phillips’s former studios in Memphis, but here she goes back to her folk roots and it suits the purity and timbre of her voice. Return Me is a simple love song suffused with great warmth, while the Fairport Convention-like The Woman Who Planted Trees tells the story of the Kenyan activist Wangari Maathai, who reforested her local area and started a green revolution. It’s all very straightforward, but Barker inhabits familiar folk-rock styles with quiet confidence. (Thirty Tigers)
